Where the Sidewalk Ends Mix

Perhaps its a well known fact, but I just put two and two together the other day: Shel Silverstein, noted children's author of "Where the Sidewalk Ends" and "Falling Up" also wrote some great songs including "A Boy Named Sue" for Johnny Cash, "Cover of the Rolling Stone" and "Sylvia's Mother" for Dr. Hook, and "The Unicorn Song" for the Irish Rovers.

If you've never heard "Sylvia's Mother," it is one of the most pleading songs in rock's long list of songs that deal with love and the people who get in its way. The song bursts with with desperation and urgency and it is one of the most visual songs I have every listened to. And if you're lucky enough to hear it on vinyl, the crackle and hiss brings the rain mentioned in the song right to the forefront.

... and the operator says Forty cents more, for the next three minutes
